Yesterday I learned that the original “Rudolph” special didn’t have the same final scene we know and love.. the elf was throwing down wrapped boxes/packages that had the credits written on them.
The kids wrote in and complained that Santa didn’t keep Rudolph’s promise to rescue the Misfit Toys, so they shot a new ending sequence where the sleigh team stops off on King Moonracer’s Island to pick the misfits up. To make time for this in the show, they cut the “We Are Santa’s Elves” song about in half.
(Also.. Yukon Cornelius licking his pickaxe all the time “Nuthin’…” ? They also cut out a sequence at the end where he throws the axe outside of Santa’s castle.. and discovers his fortune – he struck… peppermint.)
