My wife picked up tops in Guatemala. They have a handle and a string, and are called “trompos”.

As part of Air Force survival school, I was put in a mock POW camp. It was only vaguely related to the real thing – but enough to get a taste for it.

The two torture methods that worked best on me were sleep deprivation and solitary confinement. Under those two conditions, one has time for retrospection.

I came to conclude that all we have are ourselves and each other and from this derived 5 priorities for my life and they are (in no particular order): life itself, health, family, faith and freedom.

These are the only things worth living for, the only things worth fighting for and the only things worth dying for.

Anyone who would try to deny these to anyone else is my enemy. (I have a big concept of “family”).

Not on the list are wealth, prestige, title, rank, an impressive car or home — all those things that are measures of success in this world.

A do not believe in the Gospel according to the Rolling Stones, “My buddy can’t be a man ‘cause he doesn’t smoke the same cigarettes as me.” I do get satisfaction.

Imagination is dangerous and to be discouraged. It only makes the sheep harder to control…

Tops were a real fad for a season in my childhood. Never heard much about them again.
