Any time you read or hear about “school lunch debt” you should ask yourself why, in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, “school lunch debt” is a thing that we allow to exist.

Grade 1-8, we brown-bagged. Great sandwiches, etc. kids would offer thier cafeteria lunch + $’s for mine! Only took it when Desparato for cash!

When I was a kid (in a staunchly Republiklan and devoutly christian area), every day in class they passed out a grey paper ticket to every kid who’d bought the school lunch. Then they called the one kid whose family was receiving aid alone and gave him a purple ticket.

Because, like all good Republiklans & christians, they thought that all help – however grudgingly given – should be accompanied by a good solid dose of humiliation.

Someone just donated $10,000 to the Riverside (CA) Unified School District to pay off school lunch debt.
