When I was in 9th grade, I missed over two months of school due to an illness. Upon my return, my English teacher called me up to the board in front of the class and asked me to point out the prepositional phrase in the sentence. I said “I haven’t been here for three months. I wasn’t here when you taught this.” He made me stand there and guess until he finally pointed it out. Teachers have a mean streak like everyone else, too.
It would seem the “Teacher” was an incompetent , self-important fool who would have made a better Parking Meter Maid.I endured many of them…Had lousy grades all through my “Schooling”…When I took the English placement tests for college, I placed in “English Literature” – In which I had a 4.0 grade average. My friends in “Bone Head” couldn’t stand that…or the way I rubbed it in…For some strange reason Diagramming a sentence was sort of “Fun” way back to fifth grade…you should have learned how by then, and that “teacher” should have helped you out.Key Word – “HELP”You don’t “Teach” by asking foolish questions – You "Teach by explaining….Sorry …I’ll get off my “Soap-Box” now

Do they still do that in school? I know I did that several times. I never caused a laugh but I committed a few goofs.

One of the most pointless exercises ever to exist. To this day, (50 + years later) I still have never found a use for diagramming sentences.
