Auntie, try being the only Portuguese kid in a ’60’s school filled with Irish, Polish, and Italian kids.

My surname’s Jewish, with a guttural “ch”, the English can’t handle… Sometimes I’m not sure of the pronunciation myself…

People don’t even try to say our last name. I know it’s me when they say, Miss Nannette. . .?"

I have never learned to pronounce my last name properly. The last version I heard always seems like it might be the right way to pronounce it.

My brother and I pronounce our last names differently. Both of us swear that’s how our father pronounced it.

How difficult can ‘Acid’ be? May last name is almost always misspelled, but I can understand why, it looks French but sound Jewish.

Then there is having a last name (maiden AND married) that is the same as a popular TV show. No, I haven’t heard that joke before. There is a clue here.

I think the funniest misspelling of my first name was when someone spelled it with a “y” on the end rather than “ie” and never put it together that it’s the name of a month. Julie vs July
