I want to think there’s some sort of explanation for why I, a clump of atoms, have soul. But I also know that any theory a mortal comes up with has an infinity-minus-one to one chance of being correct.
I’d love to believe in peace. But we keep revealing we’re still a bunch of&%$$# throwing monkeys just as thing seem to be calming down. and the potential death toll for the upcoming Christmas truces would make a saint swear maledictions of the tenth degree of ferocity, evaporating his halo.
Everybody believes in something, in fact, a number of things they can’t see. They just haven’t formally thought about it. And people kill each other for reasons that have nothing to do with belief; some who claim not to believe in anything kill people for being open believers. People can even kill other people in the name of peace; in fact, if you don’t kill some people the only peace you can have is the peace of slavery. The Li’l Abner comics had a character who liked peace and quiet so much, he shot every living thing in sight because only when they were dead were they peaceful and quiet enough.
I believe that I’ll have another cup of tea and maybe asmall slice of coffee cake. MMM that duck egg omelette was tasty. Just enough peppers, onions and mushrooms. MMMM And cheese. Ricotta works well for duck eggs. Don’t forget the basil.

Little girl, if you don’t recognize what is right in front of you, even if only for a moment, you’ll never see it.

These are the same people who taught us to fear witches, not the ones who burned innocent women alive.
