My aunt Ginny had a 1960’s TV set with a early version of the remote
. It took a lot of effort to press the button, and, when you did it would make a “whoosh” sound and you would hear the relay of the electric motor on the dial go “CRUNK !”

In the mid ’70s, my neighbours had a TV with a four-button non-electric remote control that made a loud ‘click’ when you pushed a button. Back then they really were ‘clickers’! (Apparently they were ultrasonic.)

My uncle had one of those ultrasonic remotes. My dad found out he could change the channels by jingling loose coins in his pocket. Drove my uncle nuts.
