I remember what newspapers thought their future was; You would own a screen hooked up (to a telephone line?) and news would be sent straight to it. No paper wasted and virtually instantaneous! Everybody wins!

The town I live in had two newspapers, one you subscribed to, and a free one with lots of ads. They merged, and the resulting paper was free, with lots of ads. Over time the newspaper part shrank, until it was just a pack of ads tossed onto the driveway. Come to think of it, I don’t recall seeing it lately.

Good strip today! Next thing you know, somebody will suggest mounting a phone to a wall so nobody loses it. Or attach the phone to its base with a cord.

There used to be a train blocking downtown traffic every day. It was delivering carloads of paper for the presses. Now it fits in the back of a truck.

News, by whatever form, is now always the “news media” or just “the media”. I haven’t really heard the term “the press” used in some time. Do reporters still have a “press pass” or “press credentials”?

As a former layout planner, I don’t know if I should laugh or cry…
