It appears that the usual pronunciation of February has been contaminated by January. This kind of mutual influence in “compact series” is common. The original pronunciation of the letter J rimed with sky (said to be still common in Scotland), the present one is copied from the pronunciation of K. Latin novem “nine” is from earlier *noven, cf. nōnus “ninth”, contaminated by decem “ten”. And note Romanian octombrie “October” whose source is obvious.
