No one ever treated us as nice as our mothers did.

Today’s strip reminds me of a quote from Brooke Shields when she was a teenage sex symbol about forty years ago.

“People ask me if I’m good in bed. When I’m ill and I stay in bed, Mom brings me chicken soup. That’s what ‘good in bed’ means to me.”

Red and Rover is set about fifty years ago before Brooke was even a teenager.

My dog is my world, but I get sick, and the chicken noodle soup, saltine crackers, and ginger ale all stay with and go inside me.

Rover knows if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

I’ve always loved the Jay Leno joke about the tragedy at the soup factory. “The piece of chicken they dipped into the vats of water for flavor fell off.”

Don’t forget the Vernor’s Ginger Ale (or 7up for those of you in other areas)

    Just a little P.S.A. here …..

Dogs can get sick and die from salt poisoning so please don’t give them people food with salt on it! What little they need to live on is already provided for them in their dog food. Anymore than that and you’re risking their health and lives because their systems simply can’t process it the way ours can.

On the behalf of dogs everywhere ….. Thank you!

I first read ‘sardines’, that would go good with chicken soup

I can never remember staying in bed with a cold and having my mother wait on me. She and Dad both worked.

Oh Rover you remind me of our Buddy Max he loved chicken. He’d get his own portion of it after it cooked. Plus he got his own set of Buddy burgers made for him too and pancakes also….yeah yeah I know spoiled but loved him so much and he was the cutest Yellow Lab ever IMHO
