My (about to be 91) mom was widowed in her 50s. Awhile after my dad died I brought up the subject of her dating again – as the oldest child I thought it my place – and told her that I would not be upset if she decided to date again and I was sure that my sisters would not be upset either. "I took care of my dad when he was dying. Then I took care of your dad when he was dying. I don’t want to date again I want to be on my own.) And she has never dated anyone since. (My sister the Yenta would know and she would tell me.)
