SF/GS Warriors and SJ Sharks might be playing in empty arenas for the next 3 – 4 weeks. Santa Clara County passed an ordinance against large gatherings over 1000 people for the next 3 -4 weeks. 2 and 4 year colleges have games scheduled in the area. They will have to be moved or played in front of 0 fans. But nothing concerning high school games, and they are starting state basketball playoffs right now.
Many, many years ago, I officiated a football (soccer) match between two teams that, for security reasons, were forced to play in an empty stadium. The silence was deafening!
Really, it was very eerie. As a referee, you learn to shut out all the crowd noises but it was strange officiating in a 70,000 fan stadium with no fans. Even the players were weirded out.
Just read that March Madness is going to be the madness minus the fans in the stands… NCAA is limiting attendance at the tournament venues to teams and select family members.
The sports mongers are afraid watching sports on television with no crowd noise won’t be the same. I predict recorded crowd noise tracks just like the laugh tracks the sitcoms use. They could pan to old recorded crowd scenes, too, but maybe that would be going a little too far….

I’m starting to think this whole epidemic is just some sort of trick by the sanitizer industry.

Remember White Sox versus Baltimore Orioles with no fans, very quite, could hear the players and the reporters talk in the stands on the TV.

The Warriors don’t care. They can lose by 30 (like last night) or 10, with or without crowds. The show must go on.
