See, this is why I never got into Pokemon cards as a kid—I’d barely get started collecting and already there were kids who were trying to pull something like this on me.
My favorite baseball cards ever were when the San Diego Padres were supposed to be moving to Washington in 1974 and Topps printed some of their players’ cards with the team as “Washington Nat’l Lea.” since the team was going to change its name with the move. Then McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc came in at the last minute to buy the team and keep it in S.D.
Long ago, I had a Willie McCovey “Nat’l Lea.” card. It was awesome.

There was a real card printed in 1974 of Montréal Canadiens star Jacques Lemaire airbrushed into a Buffalo Sabres uniform.
The card company, Topps (OPeeChee in Canada) had gotten wind of a trade and tried to get ahead of it. Oopsie. No trade.
The error initially didn’t make the news. When I opened a pack and found one, I reacted like Jack in panel 2.
However, it’s not rare; they didn’t correct the error and just printed every Lemaire card that year in a uniform he never wore.
