Linus holds up the sheet of paper.<BR><BR> He hunches over and writes: "The ones I feel sorry for are the older people who waited all night in their pumpkin patches for you to come."<BR><BR> "If I sound bitter, it's because I am. Sincerely, Linus van Pelt. P.S. See you next year."<BR><BR>

This is not an oxymoron, which is two opposing terms that describe the same thing (giant shrimp, military intelligence), Linus has false hope, misplaced trust, a delusion of reality. Not an oxymoron but a persistent belief that will come true as often as Charlie Brown will kick that football that Lucy holds.

Linus’s cognitive dissonance is still as strong as ever. Some people, no matter how many times reality shows them their beliefs are wrong will always try to find ways to rationalise their beliefs.

Maybe Linus is just bad at choosing pumpkin patches.
