Each strip is supposed to end with humor, right? I mean they always do, don’t they? So where’s the humor in the final panel of this cartoon?

I guess it must be the TV set. Schulz is saying that having a TV is the glaring answer to Charlie Brown’s question.

Yes, I also have seen that one Sunday strip, which was published during this general era(1963-1964), where he felt TERRIBLY GUILTY about going to the show, because of the OODLES of homework he had, including “a book report to write, and about ten pages of arithmetic,” to say nothing of “being home helping his mother,” but, like here, in the end, he decided to do the WRONG thing—go to the movies, in spite of the terrible feeling of guilt, that was eating at him. This cartoon “serial,”from Xmas 1964, I think was meant to convey this good moral—if you feel guilt over not doing your homework, say, gnawing at you, then, STOP POSTPONING doing the homework, or whatever it is you have to do, and DO IT, before treating yourself to “recreation,” in general. Poor Charlie Brown.

I never minded having to do book reports, I loved reading and would’ve been doing it anyway. And at least Gulliver’s Travels is an interesting book, sometimes teachers assign you to read terribly boring books
