Being heavier and stronger is not necessarily being ‘Perfectly Evolved’. There are other qualities too in the process of evolution.

But who is going to tell a tiger that ?

Yeah, vibjyor, the “other qualities” being Teeth and Claws, as my cats so often remind me.

There are a lot of good weapons that are not guns Calvin, and people have been hunting tigers for a lot longer than there have been guns. Spiked pits in front of a sacrificial lamb are very effective, as is poison on said lamb so I would say you won the bet Calvin.

Kab Buch – the bet was whether tigers are more evolved than man. One look at ‘morning Dad’ and Calvin knew he was lost. lol.

The worst thing about getting up in the morning is catching that first glance of myself in the mirror. It’s probably why it takes me a good three hours before I have the stomach for breakfast.

In order to even the playing field you would have to make the tiger equal to man in ability, or vice versa. Therein lies the fallacy of that argument as applied to any animal.

If evolution were true, Calvin’s descent from Dad would be a prime example of ‘punctuated equilibrium’ (at least according to Calvin)!

There’s a reason great Dane sized cats aren’t common pets… those are pumas. Housecats are only little because if they were bigger they could kill us!

ejcapulet…..yes you are so right, they could and very often would kill us just because they were bored or got annoyed with us.

Talk about dog bites….if cats were the size of dogs, NOW you have real bites, and how about those wicked nails to gut you while chewing on your head?

Oh yeah! There is a reason why pet cats are the size they are.

Cat Lovers, don’t get all upset with my post. I have five cats that I share my home and often my bed with and one is laying on my desk watching me as I post this comment.

Love my kitties, but I’m so glad they are the sizee they are.

    Food for thought:

“God made the cat so man could pet the tiger.” (If that’s not the exact quote, you get the idea.)

Is it odd that cats hate water and love fish (especially tuna)?

Exactly, Florchi, and the best way to do that is to give your cat a bath.

Big guns big egos and big stupidity continue to undo the TIGER.

And regardless of my firm belief in evolution I could not resist:

    William Blake

    The Tiger

TIGER, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears, And water’d heaven with their tears, Did He smile His work to see? Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Night-Gaunt, I think the novel you’re referring to is Wofen by Whitley Schrieber. I read it when I was about thirty years younger, and found it to be really creepy. Wolves that had evolved to hunt and eat mostly dying homeless people, if I remember right. They were highly intelligent and extremely fast. No one ever knew they were even there. A great read, if you can still find it.

Ten cents is all that Dad had in his pajamas that morning. The One who made the lamb most certainly made both the tiger and us as well. Agree with NightGaunt - our opposable and wonderfully flexible fingers and hands, not to mention our incredible brains, have made us pretty fearsome too.

According to a recent documentary on tigers in India and the work done there to prevent their extinction, tigers do not prey on predators. The meat of predators is generally too rank for their taste. They will resort to it if nothing else is available, but they by far prefer herbivores. Humans have that same rank meat as predators and for the most part are not preyed upon. None-the-less tigers are a real threat to humans though they do not normally eat those they kill. Of course tigers and others sometimes do acquire a taste for human flesh and therefore become far more dangerous than most tigers.
