(yesterday) “And soon afterward came the deluge.” (followed by Bible reference to the FLOOD)
khpage said yesterday, “…and in the case of this present cartoon, right on target…”
“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24:37-39
Common sense dictates you should never be outside during a thunderstorm. Of course, this is Calvin we’re talking about. To him, it’s against the law to to use common sense.
Pteranodon said yesterday,
“Calvin’s strategy reminds me of Charlie Sheen’s–claim victory and shut down all perception.”
Obviously it doesn’t work for him. Should anyone else want to try it? :o)
non sequitur - Logic. (in italics) An inference that does not follow from the premises; specif., any fallacy resulting from a simple conversion of a universal affirmative proposition or from the transposition of a condition and its consequent.
Is either Danae or Kate, (or both), a non sequitur?
Which one of them would like the above definition?
“I’m singing in the rain, just singing in the rain! What a wonderful feeling, I’m happy again!” - sigh. I wish I could dance in the rain with Gene Kelly, but I think I’d settle for the fireplace!
I was outside visiting with a neighbor as a thunderstorm was coming up (hadn’t started raining yet) when lightening struck the corner of a house about 150 feet away. The concussion knocked my neighbor to the ground (or his legs just buckled on him). Caused me to jump, but I knew we were safe because we heard it. You won’t hear the one that gets you. I think he had to go change his underwear. LOL
It’s not ‘suspense’ that motivated Hobbes. It’s knowing he’s the tall one holding the metal stick over his head in a lightning storm. At that distance Calvin would simply be “collateral damage”.
Love the expression on Hobbe’s face. Prudence personified, that tiger. Calvin seems to have an immense need to be heard by something or anyone, even Momma Nature - perhaps we should regard the thunderclap as a commentary on Calvin’s ravings, but, poor Calvin, he heard but didn’t listen. The tiger did, however…..
Ray C: As a matter of fact, I have - many times. I was inside once, looking out on a cloudless sky when lightning struck the other side of the building with enough force that my chest hurt from the concussion for several minutes afterwards. Or the time I was walking in downtown Dallas on a partly cloudy day and heard rain approaching. It hit before I could get my poncho on. I have even seen rain on one side of the street and not the other. Thunderstorm cells are like that.

A warm fireplace, a cup of hot chocolate, a good book. Heck, let nature win.

If lightning strikes Calvin, it’ll save Mom and Dad future headaches and they can start over.

Hobbes has gone to the fireplace with a tin of tuna.

I’d say he can’t stand the rain, Calvin. He already knows who’s going to win this round…..and the next for that matter.
Good morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!

This reminds me of that scene in Forest Gump, where Lt Dan is in the crows nest during a hurricane, daring God to take him.

BILIN said in BREWSTER* “baah moo arising”. Should have said “Who’ll sop the rain?”
Ray_C over 13 years ago
While we’re on John Fogerty, maybe Calvin should be singing “Have you ever seen the rain comin’ down on a sunny day?”

Hobbes’ look in the third panel, surely says enough is enough, I’m outta here!

If Calvin stays out there a few more hours, he can sing, “I Love A Rainy Night” - Eddie Rabbitt
If Calvin would start perambulating, he could sing, “Just Walking in the Rain” by Johnnie Ray.

Challenging nature is what humans do, but thunder scares me too, especially when it’s close. I’m with Hobbes on this one as I usually am.
