(yesterday) âAnd soon afterward came the deluge.â (followed by Bible reference to the FLOOD)
khpage said yesterday, ââŠand in the case of this present cartoon, right on targetâŠâ
âBut as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24:37-39
Common sense dictates you should never be outside during a thunderstorm. Of course, this is Calvin weâre talking about. To him, itâs against the law to to use common sense.
Pteranodon said yesterday,
âCalvinâs strategy reminds me of Charlie Sheenâsâclaim victory and shut down all perception.â
Obviously it doesnât work for him. Should anyone else want to try it? :o)
non sequitur - Logic. (in italics) An inference that does not follow from the premises; specif., any fallacy resulting from a simple conversion of a universal affirmative proposition or from the transposition of a condition and its consequent.
Is either Danae or Kate, (or both), a non sequitur?
Which one of them would like the above definition?
âIâm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain! What a wonderful feeling, Iâm happy again!â - sigh. I wish I could dance in the rain with Gene Kelly, but I think Iâd settle for the fireplace!
I was outside visiting with a neighbor as a thunderstorm was coming up (hadnât started raining yet) when lightening struck the corner of a house about 150 feet away. The concussion knocked my neighbor to the ground (or his legs just buckled on him). Caused me to jump, but I knew we were safe because we heard it. You wonât hear the one that gets you. I think he had to go change his underwear. LOL
Itâs not âsuspenseâ that motivated Hobbes. Itâs knowing heâs the tall one holding the metal stick over his head in a lightning storm. At that distance Calvin would simply be âcollateral damageâ.
Love the expression on Hobbeâs face. Prudence personified, that tiger. Calvin seems to have an immense need to be heard by something or anyone, even Momma Nature - perhaps we should regard the thunderclap as a commentary on Calvinâs ravings, but, poor Calvin, he heard but didnât listen. The tiger did, howeverâŠ..
Ray C: As a matter of fact, I have - many times. I was inside once, looking out on a cloudless sky when lightning struck the other side of the building with enough force that my chest hurt from the concussion for several minutes afterwards. Or the time I was walking in downtown Dallas on a partly cloudy day and heard rain approaching. It hit before I could get my poncho on. I have even seen rain on one side of the street and not the other. Thunderstorm cells are like that.

A warm fireplace, a cup of hot chocolate, a good book. Heck, let nature win.
rentier almost 14 years ago
Itâs not always so easy to win against nature, sigh!!
margueritem almost 14 years ago
Iâll take that fireplace, Cleo!
pouncingtiger almost 14 years ago
If lightning strikes Calvin, itâll save Mom and Dad future headaches and they can start over.
pouncingtiger almost 14 years ago
Hobbes has gone to the fireplace with a tin of tuna.

Iâd say he canât stand the rain, Calvin. He already knows whoâs going to win this roundâŠ..and the next for that matter.
Good morning, Marg, Mike & â Lonewolfâ !

This reminds me of that scene in Forest Gump, where Lt Dan is in the crows nest during a hurricane, daring God to take him.

BILIN said in BREWSTER* âbaah moo arisingâ. Should have said âWhoâll sop the rain?â
Ray_C almost 14 years ago
While weâre on John Fogerty, maybe Calvin should be singing âHave you ever seen the rain cominâ down on a sunny day?â
twj0729 almost 14 years ago
Hobbesâ look in the third panel, surely says enough is enough, Iâm outta here!
Puddleglum2 almost 14 years ago
If Calvin stays out there a few more hours, he can sing, âI Love A Rainy Nightâ - Eddie Rabbitt
If Calvin would start perambulating, he could sing, âJust Walking in the Rainâ by Johnnie Ray.

Better get the canoe out of the garage, Calvin. And TIGERS DONâT LIKE TO GET WET!!!

Challenging nature is what humans do, but thunder scares me too, especially when itâs close. Iâm with Hobbes on this one as I usually am.

Why arenât Calvinâs parents watching him! No wonder he gets into so much trouble all the time. Kids need supervision!
