Most self-submitted manuscripts are rejected out of hand, usually unexamined. You have to go through an agent to get them to actually read it. Which of course costs money.

Maybe if he began his stories with something other than “It was a dark and stormy night….”

I love you very much, Snoopy. Your stories are beautiful. If I owned a publishing house, I would accept them all !!! :)))

I think that rejection slip was written by ‘Alice’ of the Dilbert cartoon strip …

In retrospect, these two strips are even more hilarious after reading this one:

Good thing that Snoopy isn’t using the Harry Truman method (http://rjgeib.com/heroes/truman/truman-daughter.html) in response…

Stephen King couldn’t get anyone to buy Carrie till a friend of a friend happened to be in the publishing business and read it. Rowling was rejected 26 times, I hear. Book profits are paper thin(ouch) and people are not anxious to stick their necks out for unknowns!!

You can now find publishers who will publish anything, as long as you pay them for it. And Snoopy, you can publish online. Try that.

The part that really hurts is when the rejection letter is signed, “Love, Mom.”

Today’s classic strip reminds me of today’s wonderful Peanuts Begins. The eyes take words in but the mind always sees what it wants to see.

This reminds me of a note a conductor sent to a music critic who had published a terrible review of his concert. He wrote: “I am sitting in the smallest room in my house. I have your review in front of me. Soon it will be behind me.”

I’ve received easily a hundred rejection slips over my long career, and, nope, that isn’t a form letter. Take a hint, Snoop, and find a new market or a different hobby.

That may be the stepping stone to success. Bill Watterson might have also gone through that. Never mind.
