Heart: Dean! What is that?! Dean: Uh...a candy bar. They're all the rage. Heart: Uggh! I gave up candy for lent! Dean: Actually, it's an almond joy...you know, " you can share half and still have whole!" Heart: Get thee behind me, Satan!! YAAAAAAA! Dean: Is organized religion strange, or is it just girls?

Both.

Dean should have said, “Oops! Sorry!” and gotten the Almond Joy (mmm…!) and himself the heck out of her sight — if only out of consideration for what she’s trying to do. Then again, if kids were thoughtful and considerate, they’d be adults.

Darkeforce – insidious is a bit strong. I don’t consider my faith to be “proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects: “the insidious effects of stress”.

Mark Tatulli has touched a nerve with this one. I’d wager that we’ll see more comments like the one from YankeeFan (speaking of organized religions) before we’re done here. Personally, I’d go with strange AND insidious…

As an unannointed outsider, I’ve been watching with great amusement as my niece and my mother-in-law trip over each other’s Lent prohibitions. It’s been hilarious.

You can’t get points for resisting temptation if you weren’t tempted.

ChukLitl: Saint Augustine said pretty much the same thing: “Where there is no temptation, there is no virtue.” If you read his autobiographical Confessions, you know you’re in the presence of a brilliant, insightful, and refreshingly pragmatic man.
