Pab: Dude, thats a bummer now that I think of it…..
Here I thought great now I don’t have to go to different sites, I can see it all under one tent. But if they have to bump something…well that STINKS
Doctor: So do I. It’s a great thing for Universal Uclick and makes them a much stronger company, but I do worry a little. I hope there’s room for everyone under the new big tent.
Your reasoning is why my account with uClick is older. The way we got the goComics format at a previous conjunction, I hope this time we don’t lose the abilitty to throw in links & format. So far “Peanuts” seems to be the only thing I’ve lost in the shuffle. Do we get the entire “Li’l Abner” archive, like we have “Doonesbury”, or just the year or so loop they’ve been playing? Is there a chance in hεll of bringing “King Features” onboard? (I imagine we’d have to board them, me hearties.) Does anyone have archives for “Pogo” & “Tumbleweeds?” Yes, I’m a comix junkie. Why’d y’think I learn’d to read?
PS an hour later: where do you leave PibComments these days, that is highlarious today.
ChukLitl: No one has archives of “Pogo.” Pogo is controlled very tightly by the Kelly family and their corporate entity Okefenokee Glee and Perloo, Incorporated.
They’re very jealous about protecting Ol’ Pog’ and his image since Kelly took the copyright for his strip back from his syndicate in 1951, back when syndicates always held the copyrights.
There is a slight chance that the rights to “Pogo” strips from 1949 through 1951 reside with King Features, who gobbled up Publisher’s Hall when it went defunct, but I think that Kelly’s deal was retroactive, and OGPI now owns all of the Pogo strips.
I hope they consider a web presence, since the web can really show off Kelly’s art in a way few media could.
I can think of lots of people I’d like to bomp (take that any way you want).
I’ve been on GoComics and comics.com for about the same amount of time, and I also subscribe to DailyInk (the King Features strips), and there are indie strips I check on a more or less daily basis. A merger will weed out duplicate strips in my emails, and I’ve noticed that strips that are colored in on one site are sometimes left in B&W (or colored differently) on the other.
I much prefer the GoComics account management and commenting style to that of comics.com. We’ll just have to wait and hope for the best.
There are a couple of official Pogo-related sites, but they don’t have archives or running strips. You can, however, look up the correct lyrics to “Deck Us All With Boston Charlie”.
My only beef is, I like to read comics via RSS feed, and comics.com has the actual comic in the RSS, whereas here at gocomics.com it’s just a link and I have to actually open the site, which is a pain even though I understand why they do it.

My random prediction is that they will keep the comics.com name, but move the gocomics software to it. But I have no inside information.
