Schools teach the test, which is memorization. Gone in a flash. Critical thinking isn’t taught, which is the life skill needed these days. That’s why so many people believe outlandish internet crap rather than facts.
Kids hate word problems, but that’s how life deals them out. The 20th century school taught enough to get someone a job on an assembly line. It’s not what’s needed these days. I grew up with a blue-collar dad and a home mom who could ride herd on our school work. It now takes both parents working, and the kids don’t get the guidance at home that we used to (sometimes physical guidance, but that’s a different subject). No cure in sight for this one, either.
