A quick and dirty multiverse thought: Perhaps Amesworth radiation operates differently in different realities. So in this universe, it transformed everyone on the planet into toothbrushes, instead of dust.
I’m guessing this is some kind of nano-tech different from dittos, from a different reality perhaps. Maybe used to create robotic electric toothbrushes that somehow became sentient? Well, it’s as good as anyone else’s guess…
