Roger: Let's see... should I get the high-fat milk, or the low-fat? Peter: The high fat. Roger: Should I get the extra-thick bacon, or the regular. Peter: Dad, you have to ask?? Roger: You're a lot more fun to shop with than your mother. Peter: You're only buying three?

A lot more expensive to shop with, too. Don’t worry about buying Q-tips, Roger – your wife’s screams when she sees the receipt will clear your ear canals nicely …

I do the shopping. I take the time to do the math of the unit price on Brand A vs the sale price of the other. I compare the calories (what do they mean 4 servings?), and think about the political leanings of the manufacturer. When I carry the groceries in the house, I know that I enjoy the ice cream, pizzas, and coffee I purchased. Somehow, she never cooks food I don’t like. Coincidence?

While I agree that a “normal” diet of fruits, meats, nuts, grains and vegetables is healthiest, I’d hardly call that “American.” More American diets consist of a ground meat slurry from several animals, high-fat fried food, lots and lots of dairy, soda, soda, soda, and very little in the vegetable or fresh fruit department. And don’t forget Twinkies! Not that we don’t have everything we need right here - we just don’t eat it so much.

They should probably stop and get the industrial sized fish oil based on the way they’re eating.

The problem with completely depriving your family instead of limiting the bad food they eat is that they’re gonna do it behind your back anyway. This is the problem with people like Dr. Oz and Jamie Oliver, instead of encouraging a sensible diet with some treats once in awhile, they expect you to immediately switch to lettuce (no dressing) and walnuts and nothing else. And their attempt to convince people that “1/4 teaspoon of low fat cottage cheese on a stick of celery can be just as tasty as a bowl of ice cream” just makes people completely tune them out.

Sorry all I couldn’t stomach what they are buying. We use ground turkey here. I do exercise my old body is protesting I have to use a heating pad and like to exercise for longer time but can’t.
