This is a comic artist showing he is a master at his craft. Not many can use the phrase ‘not funny’ in three quarters of the strip and turn it into the funniest comic of the week. Just look at the growing agitation on Scratch’s face in the last frame! Fabulous!
Yup. Scratch is right. Not funny. I own a cat. Some years ago I ended up with $500 in vet bills because he tried to not go in the closet etc. He was frightened away from his box accidentally, my husband moved an air compressor into the garage and the sound terrified the cat, so he refused to use his preferred litter box spot, and he held it in too long for too many days. I had to pay for the damages in vet bills, and he had to pay for it in pain. This bit about the mice bullying the cat is dragging out too long and losing me here.
Some years back I had a “rat” problem in my garage. When the snow is deep, I park my small car and drive the larger one. When it warmed back up I was putting washer fluid in and I found a “rat” had built a nest next to the engine. When I tried to chase it out, it looked at me as though I was disturbing him. That was not funny.

He’s likely to just borrow a shoe or an oriental rug, anything that stains would do nicely.

Funny? I think it depends on whether you think getting your shoes pooped in is funny.

Scratch is another character who has worn out his welcome. Arguably.

I agree with that, but those rats seem to have nothing better to do than get on Scratch’s nerves to begin with.

Time for Scratch to enjoy some rodent sashimi.

Depends on who you’re asking about whether this gag is funny …
For the record, I think it’s clever.
