Caulfield says, "How far do you run a week?" Miss Plainwell says, "Mmm, about 62 to 74.5 miles." Caulfield says, "Do all runners express metric distances in imperial terms?" Miss Plainwell says, "Probably percent of us do." Caulfield says, "Your girlfriend is as weird as you." Frazz says, "Yet no weirder than a kid who claims to hate math but can recognize a binary number."

95%… and I did that in my head… yeah, I’m a geek.

the geek way to compute it “simply” is: 128 – 1 – 32 = 95, since 128 = 2^7 (binary 10000000), which is what you get if you add 1 to ‘01111111’ – and then you know your 5th bit (2^5 = 32) is also missing from your original number

That is one weird notation for binary. Since I learned about different bases in elementary school I was a fan of base 8 and base 16, claiming that Mathematics would’ve evolved so much earlier if there were no other odd numbers than the 1.
