I owned an Arco station in 1969. During the year the price for regular got as low as 22 cents per gallon.
One day our Arco rep visited us to tell us about a plan to allow customers to pump their own gas for a 2 cent discount. We laughed him out of the station…..imagine, women pumping their own gas. It was unthinkable….LOL
I worked part time in the 50’s at a “service station” (these don’t exist anymore). For 3 years we sold gas for 29.9c a gallon. Then I bought my first car and that same week the price of gas jumped to 30.3c a gallon. I almost had apoplexy. I didn’t know how I was gonna afford to pay those kind of prices for gas…….

During the Nixon administration, my father was glad that gas wasn’t under the price freeze because it was a whopping 29.9¢ per gallon.

I won $5 worth of gas and my car wouldn’t hold it all……………….

One of the gas station chains had TV ads featuring Jack Benny always buying $1 worth of gas at their gas stations.
These days that would almost get him to the next gas station.

When I started driving in 1993, gas was $1.25. Could we at least get back to that?

Cheaper? You call $3.59 a gallon cheaper? 20 miles away from here, it’s 11 cents cheaper. Go figure!

I remember $.18/gal…..and you got service and gifts. RC- I WISH gas was $2.50—in CA it’s 4 bucks.

…and a top-of-the-line Caddy was 5k and you could buy a house for 10k. Of course, if you made 10k per year, you were considered upper middle class…
