I was teaching a kid to play drums, and told him the best thing he could do was play to albums, he looked at me like I had two heads; guess I dated myself.
I’ve never heard of “burning down the house”, but I’m neither surprised nor curious. My music tastes never followed “popular” ones, once I was out of high school in the ’50s. Jazz and classical interest me more.
Lots of people get stuck in “their” musical generation. You don’t have to like every new generation’s music but if you don’t give it more than a passing listen, your opinion is worthless. Be careful, you’re turning into your parents.
Don’t parents listen to music with their children anymore? I was born in 1960, and most of the music I listened to until I was in my teens was from the ’40s and ’50s.
Of course, we mostly lived out in the country – poor radio and TV reception. If my brother and I wanted to listen to music, our choices were limited, but the music was still very good.
Last year, a young dental technician asked me if there was anything new in my life and I said, yes, we were trying to get things in order for a major “downsizing” move, and I had just found someone who would buy several hundred of my LPs.
She worked away in silence for a long moment or two, and finally said, “What’s an ‘elpee’?”
. . . and you know, it’s not that easy to explain!

No…and they’re not burning down my house! Just give me that old time rock and roll. It’s the kind of music that just sooths the soul.
