sigh * Another PSA. Aren’t some comic strips supposed to be, you know, FUNNY? Baldo is funny when it tries to be funny, otherwise it’s just preachy and self-righteous.

So, she’s glad he knows he has diabetes, which is slightly different.

Doesn’t she stand a chance of inheriting it too? Better to be informed of family maladies. My Mom never told me about Otosclerosis until I told her about a visit to a specialist for a wierd hearing problem. (I could hear my own blood flowing at times).

The perfect way to do a comic strip PSA with warmth and humor.

Reminds me of what the surgeon said when I was diagnosed with breast cancer:

    “Congratulations, we found a tumor.”

And I said, after a moment of shock: “Why are you congratulating me?”

“Because we found it early, and it is really tiny.”

    That was 19 years ago.

The sooner you know about a medical problem, the better you can deal with it.

The word diabetes is singular, Wildmustang1262, not plural. And yes, it can be a terrible disease if not treated properly. Take care of yourself, follow your doctor’s orders and you’ve almost nothing to worry about. I know; I was diagnosed with Type II back in ‘02, and everything’s fine. I had a friend with Type I who didn’t take care of himself and suffered the consequences. Note that I wrote “had,” not “have.” If any of you out there are concerned that you might be one of that 6 million, ask your doctor for a A1c test and find out for sure.

Interesting comment about hearing your own blood flow. It’s known as Venous Hum; the musician that has it named his group “Venus Hum” after his ailment…

My Doctors were so busy looking for the diabetes I did NOT have, that they missed the cancer I did.
