I’ll give Sam credit for proper trigger discipline.

Except that he knows how to handle a gun, in your hands, Roy, even a marsmallow can become in a lethal weapon for yourself.

How did Roy get chosen for this job? It’s not a Tommy gun even if that pistol goes off accidently it wouldn’t shoot everyone.

Hey, what about Charlene? I wonder if she’s gonna find out somehow, of course the only way that’ll happen so soon is if Sedine calls her, how would she react?

    Back to the book…

It is already established that Sam will cover Roy messing up.

I am suprised that Roy is even allowed an gun or that he doesnt have to carry it unloaded like Barney Fife.

My first sidearm training was in Toronto where we had cross draw holsters with a cover flap. I was conditioned to use my left hand to lift the cover and draw the revolver with my right, being careful not to hit the release on the Webley and dump the cartridges on the ground. Later when I was in artillery regiment we had holsters for our 9mm that had a latch for the cover. Difficult to open in the field, so I moved it to left hip. Not regulation. Now there are combat holsters on your leg.

When we wintered in DC (during Baltimore riots) I considered a shoulder holster if it came down to getting weapon. If you are in a vehicle and attacked, a waist or back holster is too hard to reach. But to maintain concealed carry status, you have to have a jacket (No fun on hot DC days)

Back on the flatlands, don’t need a piece.

    50+ hmm…

If you wanted to stretch out the arc a bit, you could add a flashback and have the outdoor practice range next to the city dump.

    Bring back that ribbon.

He has his trigger finger “in register”, he’s OK for a real world draw. On a formal range he would need to face 90 degrees away from the target, draw muzzle down range and then pivot his body into firing position.
