I would much rather wear a tracking device than risk being lost and dying of exposure.
In my hometown there was an elderly couple who drove 20 minutes to visit their daughter. It was snowing when they left to return home, and somehow they ended up 100 miles away, off the road and in the middle of a field, frozen to death.
