Isn’t the standard arctic / antarctic trekking food just butter? Highest caloric content for weight apparently

My grandfather used to eat bread dipped in fat for breakfast and lived into his 90’s.

Summers on the ocean beach; bacon fat, saved in the ice box in an old coffee cup, used for everything from frying eggs to basting hams, to yes indeed use as sunscreen on your ears and nose…7 decade old memories of Granny Cochrane and her merriwick ways [no I do not recall what she mixed into the grease that blocked the sun but I think it was sodium bicarbonate].

An ideal snack, if you’re currently plowing the north fourty, staring at the south end of a north bound mule.

My grandfather ate black strap molasses on biscuits for dinner. He lived until he was in his 90s. I tried molasses – not a fan. Never eaten lard, but I think there are places in the world where lard sandwiches are eaten.
