These younguns remind me of my 40th and 50th. At 40 I pretended that April 18th did not happen. At 50 I wrote a poem about my incredulity. At 60 I gave in and decided it was all too true.

A newspaper blowin’ through the grass
Falls on the round toes of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun

Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a parkbench quietly

How depressing since I turn 50 next week
