Reminds me of a story Mark Twain told about meeting Brigham Young. The man had many wives and, of course, many children. He had to treat the children equally well. A travelling salesman gave a couple of the children pennywhistles. They all had to have pennywhistles. The noise was unbelievable. Brigham Young sent men to chase the salesman but he made it across the border before he could be apprehended.
At a security fair at my hospital about 30 y.a. they gave out security whistles, e.g. to call for help in the parking lot. I picked up an extra for my 4-y.o. nephew; and for my own security – from my sister – I mailed it the 800 miles instead of waiting to give it to him in person.

(Just to be clear. Mark Twain wrote FICTION.)
