The clutter situation might be the only good thing about having downsized severely a few years ago from 2500 sq ft with basement and attic to 1300 sq ft with just a large shed. There is literally no room for clutter so twice a year the place gets a brutal cleanout.
That’s clutter. I have been in quite a few hoarder homes due to my job – they are nothing like this. Stuff is stacked to the ceiling almost, can fall over and suffocate people, and the hoarders cannot distinguish what is valuable from junk. It’s all valuable to them. And the smell is horrendous. It’s a mental illness, not laziness or slowly collecting things and then realizing – oh dear. Time to clean out the unnecessary mess and throw things away. Hoarding can be treated, if the patients are willing.

If you can’t see the line, it’s hoarding.

Is that the garage or the basement?

If that’s the living room then the ARE hoarders.
