Even a neutered male will chase a female in heat, and in fact will try to mate with her. Of course, if the female is spayed, there goes the problem. Yes, spay and neuter!

Happy Birthday, Susan!!!!! We spayed our dog before her first heat almost 9 years ago and have never had a problem with male dogs coming onto our property and trying to mate with her. Please. Unless you’re a professional breeder, every pet owner should show proper responsibility and have their animals fixed. By not doing so, you’re only contributing to the over-population of unwanted animals, which, in turn, leaves them open to diseases, being run over by cars, killed by other animals, or killed by humans in shelters because they’ve got so many cats and dogs there as it is that there’s just not enough room to house them all as they come in on a daily basis. They may be just animals to some people, but they’re living, breathing, feeling, loving creatures that don’t deserve the cruelty that’s inflicted on them by irresponsible humans so please, be kind and do the right thing by them . . . and that, in turn, will be doing right by the rest of society, as well.
