I’m very allergic to poison ivy, so I’m also good at spotting it. For a long time, I had figured that the allergic properties were a defense against browsers. Later, I found out that it isn’t. Most animals are completely unaffected by it. The allergen, urushiol, is a component of a sticky sap that is a repair mechanism.
