Wile E. Coyote did catch the roadrunner once, after Wile ran through a constantly shrinking pipe. When he came out the small end of the pipe, he was just big enough to grab the roadrunner’s leg.
Amazing all the junk that accumulates in one’s brain. I could’ve been a rocket surgeon if it wasn’t for the Ballad of Jed Clampett, Gilligan’s Island, memorizing all prime numbers <100, etc. I am a good Trivial Pursuit partner, though.
New Mexico’s state bird is the Roadrunner(Geococcyx californianus). Officially adopted March 16, 1949. It was adopted under the name “Chaparral Bird”. In Spanish, it is called “El Correcaminos”. The comical roadrunner prefers running to flying and has been clocked at speeds of 15 miles per hour. They are approximately 22 inches in length and their diet consists of insects, lizards, centipedes, mice and snakes. The New Mexico state bird, the Roadrunner, was a bird not known to Audubon in his time, and was therefore not included in the 1840 edition of Birds of America. Just thought I’d mention this since I am a native New Mexican.
