Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for May 22, 2011
Transcript:
Mark: Only one story today... better get to it! Okay, so lately I've been thinking about this book I once read called "The No A------ rule." Everyone knows what an a----- is - an obnoxious, narcissistic bully, someone who hogs all credit and ducks all blame. The book cites extensive evidence that in the workplace, a-----s create a toxic environment, decrease productivity, and induce employee turnover. Bottom line? No matter what the organization, it's a huge mistake to knowingly hire a certified a----! Okay, so given all that, here's today's class exercise. Everyone ready? Make the case for a Donald Trump candidacy. Lines are open - go!

GT’s strip has a few weeks’ lead time — this is his second too-late Trump joke. He lucked out with the dictator hiding in Duke’s house just as Osama was taken out; but sometimes history outflanks him.

Not so omniscient. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I was just reading some old Doones toons. One character reacted to something said in the above form with, “Pardon? I never understand you when you speak in hyphens.”

Keep A——s out of elected office? Good luck with that. More often than not, only an a——-e has the self-righteousness arrogance needed to get elected. We’re always forced to vote for “our” a——e just to keep “their” a——e out of office. Not to mention the fact that political power tends to bring out the a——e in everyone, and the ones that are immune are the ones who usually get labeled “wimps.”

I wish we could find politicians with more competence, and less “personality.”

@Doughfoot: I don’t know. I find the idea of a competent government rather scary. Remember, “Mussolini made the trains run on time.”

Between Trump and the Area 51 aliens exposed to be mutant Russians, I was kind of looking forward to the end of the world. I need a political Messiah, and train schedules ain’t a bad beginning.

I agree completely.

A……s are so prevalent because we celebrate them. Pro sports, for instance [especially basketball], seem to be comprised in large part of obnoxious narcissistic bullies.

This isn’t about Trump, it’s about Obama. One supposes the readers of Doonesbury a little more sophisticated than those that read Peanuts, but one would be wrong. Reading with comprehension has escaped most of us.

this is all very good, but people seem to forget (ignore?) who it is that elects the a———s

I stopped being charmed by the Current Occupant quite a while ago. But oy! The hypocritical clowns, gibbering idiots and ignoramuses that the Rethuglicans are coming up with is appalling! Fact is, the Rethuglicans have tilted so far to the know-nothing right to appease the Tea Baggers and fundies, and have excommunicated all the so-called RINOs who have any intellect, that it leaves Obama, who is in fact is a moderate Republican from 20 years ago, unchallenged. ’Tis a pity.

My local newspaper did not print this today. Had a totally different strip. Something about saving the daily strip printed as comics are becoming a collectable item, and it would be valuable in 2060. Editor must not have liked the “a……e” in the one here on Gocomics. Anyone else get this substitution?

Hmm…seems my paper ran an alternate strip today. So much for freedom of speech. Papers can censure and edit but don’t do it to them.

(2022) And sure enough, we saw all that play out during the previous administration.
