The cats I serve make their own toys. A new box is wonderful and terrific if some of the wrapping (not plastic) in the box, also a hair curler that can be snagged with one or two claws.
I’m going through this with my new little kitten, Emmie. She has loads of toys, but what does she like best? For me to dangle a particular charging cord (it’s fabric reinforced and she can’t hurt it) for hours. I have become a cat toy.
For the most part, our cats dont like store bought toys and have plenty enough fun with crumpled paper balls and the plastic rings from gallon water jugs
They do like the mice made with real fur, but I was amazed one day to see our big beast playing with a fabric mouse with a fake feather
He caught me watching, I could tell he was embarrassed
Back in the ‘80s I bought several expensive ($20 range, expensive for me back then) cat toys for my Amber. She wouldn’t go near them.
So, I was in a convenience store, and they had a crane machine, 25 cents a go – and you almost NEVER went away empty handed! So, I put in my quarter and left with a 4" plush parrot. Amber grabbed it when I got home, and it was her favorite toy for the rest of her life. Had to sew the head back on a few times…
When mom retired and moved in, she became the official parrot doctor. Amber would bring her baby to mom for major head surgery!
She was a weird kitty, though. She had no interest in boxes at all!
Moral of the story: cheap cat toys are beloved cat toys.
