Still a long way to go before he catches up with all ten years of Hillary cartoons.

    Nice try, though.

    Still mourning Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

For what it’s worth, I heard it first on SWR Aktuell. First, I heard the name. I thought it unusual for them to pronounce it the way we do. “Bader” does not rhyme with “Raider” in German.

But then, I heard “ist gestorben.”

    My heart sank.

There are days I think the Germans care more about us than we do.

We’re actually in danger of losing the democratic republic. 40% of the public is susceptible to brainwashing. 5-10% won’t play if they can’t have their way. 30% don’t vote due to disinterest or suppression. We’re going to have 2 generations of regressive policy entrenched in the court. The math is not good.

Our democracy? Yeah, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Just a historical reminder about Judges and Election Years….

    ~

The last time a Republican-led Senate confirmed a nominee put forth by a Democratic president was 1895, when it confirmed Rufus W. Peckham after he was nominated by Grover Cleveland.

Since then, Democratic-controlled Senates have approved 13 nominees by Republican presidents.

Before 2016, there had been just seven election-year confirmation battles since the beginning of the 20th century.

In the most recent case, Anthony M. Kennedy, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan, was confirmed in 1988 by a Democratic Senate in a 97-to-0 vote after a grueling seven-month process.

The only time a Senate has failed to confirm a nominee in an election year was 1968, when the nomination of Abe Fortas was withdrawn.

Both the Senate and the White House were controlled by Democrats at the time.

A reminder (As if one is needed,) Trump is corrupt and unfit for office.

    ~

A lawyer for Julian Assange told a London court on Friday that she was present when an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump offered to arrange a pardon for the WikiLeaks founder in return for information that would “benefit President Trump politically”.

Australian-born Assange, 49, is fighting to avoid being sent to the United States, where he is charged with conspiring to hack government computers and violating an espionage law over the release of confidential cables by WikiLeaks in 2010-2011.

His lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, said in a witness statement to the court that she observed a meeting at the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2017 between Assange and Republican then-U.S. Representative Dana Rohrabacher.

She said Rohrabacher and an assistant offered to arrange a pardon for Assange in return for information about the hacking of Democratic emails before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

“They stated that President Trump was aware of and had approved of them coming to meet with Mr Assange to discuss a proposal – and that they would have an audience with the President to discuss the matter on their return to Washington DC,” she said.

“The proposal put forward by Congressman Rohrabacher was that Mr. Assange identify the source for the 2016 election publications in return for some form of pardon, assurance or agreement, which would both benefit President Trump politically and prevent U.S. indictment and extradition,” Robinson said.

A reminder that I’ll be out for three weeks or so. Might be able to check in a little. Let’s just hope nothing happens while I’m away.
