When I took off my dog’s collar, he would look very sad and mope around. He just felt secure when he knew it was on even though he could not even see it.
My cats love their collars. They get upset when I take them off to change the tags. Supposedly cats don’t like collars. Screamin’ (my avatar) liked to walk, but only on the leash.
On late night walks I would drop Roxy’s leash to give her some more freedom but she always turns and looks at me as if to ask why I did that. Same deal with the collar. Take it off and she gets antsy.

Some dogs take walking their people very seriously. My dogs get nervous if I get to close to the road.
