My father drinks both. In the morning he drinks full flavored coffee from beans that are ground in the coffee maker i bought him for Christmas last year. In the evening use pre-ground coffee he makes Decaf.
I think it’s a mental thing. I drink both black and can’t tell the difference. I was told by a coffee dealer once that it costs more to make the decaf. Some manufactures will use cheaper beans to keep the cost down. Be prepared to pay more if you have to drink decaf and want good taste.
When you’re addicted, you’re addicted! On about the 7th day after I quit smoking my craving was so bad that I dug some of my cigarrete butts out of the car’s ashtray, peeled the paper off and chewed the nicotine out of the filters. That taught me I really should try the nicotine gum!
A friend tells the story of being fuzzy and muggy one afternoon at work. He needed a caffeine kick to keep going, so down he went to the lunch room. A colleague was there and the two discussed the project of the day. After the colleague left, my friend poured the coffee and returned to his office. An hour later, he sat back, pleased at the amount of work he’d accomplished, thanks to the power of good ol’ coffee. Then he took the mug to finish the last swallow and discovered he’d been drinking nothing but hot water and the power of suggestion for an hour.
Reminds me of Pat Kilbane’s MADtv character, Stan the Java Man, who was so addicted he’d drink the leftover coffee in patrons’ cups after they’d leave the shop, or devour the whole beans by the mouthful.
I always loved the smell of my parents’ coffee, so I tried some when I was a kid YECCH! Next, I noticed how good the grounds smelled, so put some in my mouth… same effect. When I was in graduate school, I started drinking coffee to stay awake and developed a taste for it.

Yes it is, if you expect your coffee to finish waking you up in the morning.

I hate decaf so much that when it’s a choice between decaf and tea, I choose tea.

I worked with a person who drank coffee all day. When I brought him coffee after 10 a.m. it was always decaf. Made for more mellow afternoons.

Decaf, like near beer, is pointless.

It is far worse.
