I have been in isolation so long that my check book is getting dusty. The isolation was self-imposed for many reasons, but it has been a blessing of sorts as those little projects that keep being put off, are now being trashed, donated or being completed. I have a new diet – while watching TV projects are being trashed, etc. keeping the hands busy and not absent-mindedly feeding the face.
I used to have a small bag full of mills coins, one mill, two mill, and five mills, issued by several different states for property tax payments. I remember a grandmother going down to pay the taxes on her house and getting them as change, and then giving them to me. Missouri honored Missouri mills, Illinois mills, Kansas mills— not sure who else, but it was some metal, some plastic, and one “five mill note” backed by the State of Missouri. Now I need to look for that bag— I don’t remember getting rid of it, but then, things just up and walk away, too.

They don’t list mills in your bankbook.

Gimme a break, Auntie Broom! If it were really that small, the bank would have long since closed your account!

After all these years, you would think her balance would be a bit bigger than that!
