I bought something in a store a few months ago. It was “on sale” for $39.99. I visited the same store just a few days ago, and the same item was “marked down” from $59.99 to $49.99. But the govmint says inflation is just 2.5%. It looks like (using questionable application of mathematics) 25% per quarter, or 100% per year.

when borders books closed they said liquidating 50% off and in tiny letters msrp. So the price was about the normal price.
