Okay… (the weird things left out in the Internet)…
Monday was Peanut Butter Cups. Reese’s created by former Hershey’s employee Harry Burnett “H. B.” Reese, who originally sold them under the name Penny Cups in the 1920’s.
Tuesday was Jolly Rancher. Traaces to the name of an ice cream store in Colorado, which was named with the intent of giving off a friendly Western aura.
Wednesday was Smarties. (And I really enjoyed that someone pointed this out!) Named to encourage people to pursue an education. Sold as “Rockets” in Canada to avoid confusion with another candy of the same name.
Today (Thursday) is Junior Mints. A pun on the name of the 1940’s Broadway play Junior Miss meant to imply that this was a good candy to eat during movies or shows.
Almost can’t wait to find out what candies will be chosen for Friday and Saturday! I am hoping for the candies that were named… because the winner of a contest thought of himself as a klutz,… or Opal Fruit,… or named for a jazz club,… or the creators daughter Clara’s nickname! (Count yourself Candy Smart if you can name those four candies!!!!!)
