Never watched Dawson’s Creek myself (not when I was Katie O’Dell’s age, mind y’all… I was 13 when it aired in 1998 and 18 when it finished in 2003).
Did the mother forbid Blue’s Clues because she was tired of watching it? If so, she could let the kid watch it while she’s away.

At least with Blue’s Clues the kids learn reasoning and deduction
