I used to have a problem misplacing my coffee mug and would search all over the house for it. And then, like as not, I’d have to go to the microwave to reheat it ’cuz by then it had gotten cold. I finally minimized my problem (I hesitate to say “solved” it) by having only four places in my house where I would put my mug down. Even if I had to walk several steps to get to one of the places I would do so.

I just did that this morning looking for my glasses. My dog stayed asleep on the bed and was unconcerned with my plight.
