Looks like the fish is suffering from “foot in mouth disease.”

And be sure to tune in tomorrow when Mr. Fish invents the footstool!

Just wait until he reproduces 3 offspring. Then his family will have evolved by a yard.

I think that what’s going on here is the discovery of a uvula that resembles the “almost leg/foot” he has. He’s evolving in more than one area.

Foot-and-mouth disease, never heard of it in Wisconsin since I quit listing to The Morning Agricultural Report on PBS radio in the early ’50s.

All this talk of putting your foot in your mouth made me wonder where that idiom came from. I did some googling, and found this:

Definition: To say something embarrassing or inconsiderate, especially at an inappropriate moment.

This expression first appeared in the late-1800s. Another common way to say this is to put one’s foot in one’s mouth. Some sources suggest that it is derived from to put one’s foot in it. This earlier expression means to do something embarrassing. It may come from the mistake of putting one’s foot in mud or feces. The newer version, to put one’s foot in one’s mouth, may have developed to specifically mean doing something embarrassing through one’s speech.

A variant, foot in mouth disease, appeared around the mid-twentieth century. This variant is a play on words that relates to the disease foot and mouth disease. The medical disease affects animals with hooves, such as cows, pigs, and sheep.
