Husband does our taxes. One year we got a letter that we owed about $10.000, but husband said the IRS had made a mistake and wrote them a letter. We got more notices, these including interest and penalties. Husband wrote more letters. After many months, we got an IRS notice saying that we only owed $150. I was ecstatic. Husband said, no, we didn’t owe anything. Finally we went in to talk with an IRS representative, who checked things out, only took her a few minutes, and said yes, we did not owe anything. She then asked my husband to please not write them any more letters.
