I actually used a stick in my bedroom as a child to reach the off button on my tv lol .
That wouldn’t work with new TVs as most either have buttons on the bottom, back or none at all.

I have a calibrated monitor that I use for watching TV when not editing photos. It doesn’t have remote controlled power. I sit just far enough away that I need Futurama’s Professor Farnsworth’s “Finger-Longer” to turn it on.
